Volunteer Update

An Eastern Carpenter Bee finds the Foxglove BeardTongue in our Demonstration GardenA huge shout-out to our volunteers who have been counting park visitors, watering the demonstration garden, and planning for our Titanic 110th Anniversary.  We can still use more volunteers for all of these activities throughout the Summer.  You can learn more at our June Friends Meeting, or get started before then:

  • Titanic 110th Planning -
  • Visitor Counts
  • Demonstration Garden Watering
    • Because our water source is at Harbour Square, this opportunity is restricted to Harbour Square Residents only.
    • It takes 30 - 45 minutes to water the garden, including managing the hoses.  It helps to have a buddy for this task.
    • Visit the Demonstration Garden Watering Resources page to read instructions and sign up.

Friends Board News

Meet our newest board member!  Claire Adrian-Tucci and her husband Andrew Adrian welcomed Nate on April 14th - yes, right on the Titanic anniversary.  We've been very fortunate to have Claire on our board, especially with event planning and creating fun Halloween activities for kids at the Duck Pond.  One good thing about COVID restrictions this past year has been that board meetings moved to Zoom, so Claire was able to continue to contribute, even though she moved away from the DC area in 2020.

We're planning to hold hybrid (Zoom and in-person) board meetings beginning in July.  While Claire will be able to continue as a board member, we all recognize that expanding the board now will help us as we return to in-person events and activities.  Are you interested?  Please attend the June Friends Meeting and keep an eye out for an email later in June.  We'll provide more specifics about what we're looking for and how you can help.
